Higre Energy Solar Pumping Sites in Cambodia
Release time: 2026-11-03
Agricultural pumping across Cambodia’s rural provinces faces constant microweather swings. During the wet monsoon, scattered cumulus clouds cut solar array irradiance by up to 70% in seconds, then clear just as fast. Standard variable frequency drives (VFDs) often hunt erratically across their MPPT curves under these conditions, causing severe DCbus ripple, motor shuddering, and pipeline water hammer.

Higre Energy recently commissioned two offgrid solar pumping installations in Cambodia, combining existing polycrystalline panels with highpower monoPERC arrays across four dedicated pumping lines. Beyond delivering steady daily water volume without grid ties or diesel gensets, the site trial validated a reworked dynamic MPPT algorithm built specifically to handle tropical cloud transients.
Site Array Architecture & Pumping Layout
The deployment spans two independent agricultural irrigation blocks operating without battery banks:
Irrigation Block 1
11 kW Submersible Line: Repurposes existing onsite modules—32 units of 455 Wp panels wired in two parallel strings of 16.
5.5 kW Surface Lift Line: Powered by 16 units of new 630 Wp modules running on a single 16panel string.
Irrigation Block 2
11 kW HighCapacity Line: Powered by 32 units of 630 Wp modules configured into two 16panel strings.
5.5 kW Secondary Line: Configured with a dedicated 16panel string of 630 Wp modules.
Both stations convert raw array DC power directly into 3phase AC motor output, starting automatically at dawn and tapering down at dusk without manual switching.
Field Verification: Resolving Dynamic Irradiance Instability
The primary challenge at the Cambodian site was motor instability caused by fastmoving cloud edges. Standard solar pump controllers adjust tracking steps too aggressively; when light drops abruptly, the inverter cuts operating frequency too quickly, inducing mechanical vibration and stalled water columns.

Following parallel testing against previousgeneration hardware onsite, the local engineering team submitted the following field report:
“Now that we have installed and tested the new Higre Energy model onsite, we clearly noticed a big difference in performance compared to our older model. The new model operates extremely smoothly and remains very stable even when clouds pass by—it doesn’t cause any motor stuttering. In contrast, the older model fluctuates too fast and causes the motor to stutter when sunlight changes rapidly.”
“Is there a new firmware or software update available for the older model? If yes, please kindly provide the update file along with the instructions on how we can flash/update it so that its MPPT response can run as smoothly as the new model.”
Control Logic: What Prevents the Shudder?
- Damped FeedForward MPPT Tracking: Rather than executing steep frequency drops during momentary shading, the inverter’s control loop uses busvoltage feedforward compensation. Motor speed ramps down smoothly along a controlled deceleration slope, maintaining sufficient hydraulic head to prevent backflow and mechanical rattling.
- 150–900 VDC Input Window: The wide DC bus range keeps the motor turning during heavy cloud cover and early dawn/dusk hours. By sustaining continuous lowspeed flow instead of cycling on and off, the system increases daily reservoir yield by up to 18%.
- Field Updates via Offline USB Port: In response to the client’s request to update legacy units, Higre’s firmware architecture supports direct USB Host flashing. Technicians do not need to haul laptops or serial debuggers through unpaved fields—inserting a standard thumb drive into the bottom port flashes the DSP drive logic in under two minutes.
Agricultural Microgrid Integration
The Cambodian installations demonstrate that offgrid solar pumping can handle volatile tropical weather while protecting legacy panel investments. Higre Energy continues to support regional agricultural EPCs and water authorities across Southeast Asia with ruggedized pump drive hardware, hybrid solargenerator controllers, and fieldproven firmware.
